The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, Palhaca's Pedro Magalhães nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hugo Machado made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After a defensive mix-up in Palhaca's zone, João Pinto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Óscar Assis came out of the goal and João Pinto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Salgueira FC booed when Palhaca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adelino Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Eduardo Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Pinto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Óscar Assis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eduardo Magalhães's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when João Pinto got free with Óscar Assis in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. João Pinto received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Óscar Assis came out and tried to block the shot, but João Pinto slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 39th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alexandre Gonçalves made a kick off. After 51 played minutes Salgueira FC got a freekick which was hit by Júlio Moura. Alexandre Gonçalves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugo Machado having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Albertino Amaral during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Óscar Assis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eduardo Magalhães, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Palhaca defense, João Pinto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Óscar Assis. The Palhaca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Óscar Assis should have stopped the shot. Pedro Magalhães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Hugo Machado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Salgueira FC's Hugo Machado proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 85th minute of the match, managed to save Salgueira FC from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Palhaca booed when Salgueira FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diogo Magalhães didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 89th minute Eduardo Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Assis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hugo Machado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexandre Gonçalves in the 92nd minute of the match. In the 94th minute Eduardo Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Assis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Palhaca's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
