An unexpectedly hard shot by Raul Câmara in the 13th minute of play forced Surribas's goalkeeper Francisco Azevedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 14th minute, Joaquim Viegas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernando Viana in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sabino Manso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Sabino Manso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Delfim Trindade, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 26 minutes, Fernando Viana managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Surribas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernando Viana was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Delfim Trindade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 30th minute, Nuno Vasques hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Mendonca's zone, Delfim Trindade stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sabino Manso came out of the goal and Delfim Trindade tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Fernando Viana had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Delfim Trindade struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Sabino Manso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Surribas. Amável Cardoso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Francisco Azevedo having to interfere. Amável Cardoso struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Francisco Azevedo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mendonca. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Delfim Trindade to make the kick off. Sabino Manso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Delfim Trindade in the 57th minute of the match. A collision led to Mendonca getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Vicente Mendonça hit a great ball. Surribas's Delfim Trindade got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Francisco Azevedo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raul Câmara, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Fernando Viana who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 74thth minute tested the skills of Sabino Manso when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In a very dangerous position, a player in Surribas fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 80th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Mendonca a penalty, 82 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Lúcio Azevedo, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Surribas's Francisco Azevedo. 1-0. With a little luck, Mendonca's Sabino Manso got control of the ball when Fernando Viana tried to sneak it across the goal line. Raul Câmara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Mendonca support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
