Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) S.L.Benfica's João Gouveia started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in F. C. Portuense's zone, Filipe Pires stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Romão Poças came out of the goal and Filipe Pires tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 4 minutes of play, S.L.Benfica's Filipe Pires made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Romão Poças was left in no man's land by his defense there! João Gouveia kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. In the 11th match minute, S.L.Benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Caio Macedo to maneuver through the defense. When Filipe Pires came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the S.L.Benfica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Filipe Pires couldn't finish the play. João Gouveia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romão Poças having to interfere. The supporters of S.L.Benfica booed when F. C. Portuense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcelo Camacho didn't get a good kick on the ball. João Gouveia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of S.L.Benfica booed when F. C. Portuense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcelo Camacho didn't get a good kick on the ball. S.L.Benfica's Filipe Pires got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. João Gouveia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romão Poças having to interfere. Cláudio Salgueiro kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. João Gouveia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Romão Poças tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eusébio Fidalgo was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, F. C. Portuense's goalkeeper Romão Poças had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by João Gouveia. 56 minutes into the match, S.L.Benfica's goal looked a bit too open when Eusébio Fidalgo came free, but Jacinto Severo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Filipe Pires had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind F. C. Portuense's goalkeeper Romão Poças, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of S.L.Benfica booed when F. C. Portuense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelo Coelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. João Gouveia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Filipe Pires could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Romão Poças made a huge save. S.L.Benfica's Filipe Pires got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. F. C. Portuense's Romão Poças played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Gouveia in the 81st minute of play. After having played for 93 minutes, Silvestre Pacheco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. F. C. Portuense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Silvestre Pacheco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. S.L.Benfica's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
