GD Barbudo's supporters rose to their feet, but Amílcar Lopes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. GD Barbudo's Paulo Almeida played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Viriato Veiga in the 25th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in GD Barbudo's zone, Viriato Veiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo Almeida came out of the goal and Viriato Veiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Amílcar Lopes came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the GD Barbudo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amílcar Lopes couldn't finish the play. Cláudio Guerreiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Paulo Almeida tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

64 minutes into the match, GD Barbudo's goalkeeper Paulo Almeida had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vítor Reis. In the 66th minute, Vítor Reis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SC Bousende fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. GD Barbudo made a substitution. Vítor Carvalho replaced Rui Miranda. Viriato Veiga might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulo Almeida. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Viriato Veiga ran back to his position shaking his head. If Jairo Ubelteso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
