The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Abel Infante kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. In the 7th minute, Leal Assunção got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Egídio Jesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 13th minute, VARZIM SPORT CLUBE's Egídio Jesus dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. A collision led to Sportyng FC getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Cássio Pinho hit a great ball. Osvaldo Águas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valter lacerda in the 31st minute of play. Leal Assunção struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Salvador Diegues didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for VARZIM SPORT CLUBE. Leal Assunção sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 41 minutes into the match, Sportyng FC's goal looked a bit too open when Egídio Jesus came free, but Salvador Diegues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leal Assunção fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Salvador Diegues having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Salvador Diegues stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Egídio Jesus's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. Sportyng FC's Valter lacerda got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 65 minutes into the match, Sportyng FC's goal looked a bit too open when Leal Assunção came free, but Salvador Diegues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Abel Infante charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Abel Infante the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 66th match minute, Sportyng FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Infante to maneuver through the defense. Sportyng FC's Salvador Diegues played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Egídio Jesus in the 67th minute of play. Leal Assunção received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Salvador Diegues tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Egídio Jesus's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Salvador Diegues was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. Valter lacerda blasted a shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Osvaldo Águas having to make a save. In a very dangerous position, a player in Sportyng FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 86th minute. Penalty! The supporters of Sportyng FC booed when VARZIM SPORT CLUBE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristóvão Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valter lacerda in the 99th minute of play forced VARZIM SPORT CLUBE's goalkeeper Osvaldo Águas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. VARZIM SPORT CLUBE's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
