Óscar Paiva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Honorato Neiva made a huge save. Hard Nose's Honorato Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Gaspar in the 15th minute of play. In the 20th minute, Cândido Monteiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. José Soares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubim Lucena, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. With a little luck, Hard Nose's Honorato Neiva got control of the ball when Óscar Paiva tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jorge Gaspar might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Honorato Neiva. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jorge Gaspar ran back to his position shaking his head. When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Jorge Gaspar put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Honorato Neiva. If Rubim Lucena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Pocilgas booed when Hard Nose was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubim Lucena didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot by Cristiano Alves from long distance, 44 minutes into the match, got Honorato Neiva's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Hard Nose's Honorato Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Gaspar in the 45th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
