André Sacramento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 15 minutes into the match, Sporting CP's goal looked a bit too open when Virgílio Festas came free, but Pedro Vigário reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. André Sacramento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Vigário having to interfere. In the 18th match minute, Sporting CP was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Enzo lago to maneuver through the defense. André Sacramentos short, quick shot in the 20thth minute got Pedro Vigário to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Márcio Fraga hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Sport Lisboa & Benfica's Rui Carvalhais played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseu Quental in the 31st minute of play. Eliseu Quental received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Rui Carvalhais tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rui Carvalhais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severino Branco in the 39th minute of play. After 40 played minutes Sporting CP got a freekick which was hit by Enzo lago. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Luís Sobral charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luís Sobral the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Luís Sobral hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After 55 minutes, Guilherme Damásio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting CP and the Sport Lisboa & Benfica players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sporting CP's Guilherme Damásio got a free kick in the 55th minute. Sport Lisboa & Benfica's Rui Carvalhais played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseu Quental in the 70th minute of play. Pedro Vigário stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Virgílio Festas's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. When the match clock showed 76 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Virgílio Festas sped through Sporting CP's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Pedro Vigário. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting CP's zone, Virgílio Festas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedro Vigário came out of the goal and Virgílio Festas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Virgílio Festas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Pedro Vigário tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sport Lisboa & Benfica were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Sporting CP for a fine match.
