Nikitas Vrasidas might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cássio Vilas Boas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nikitas Vrasidas ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 24th minute, josesinho's André Baptista seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed André Baptista the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of josesinho protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and André Baptista had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 25th match minute, josesinho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by André Baptista to maneuver through the defense. When Angelo Salgueiro came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the SLBenfica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Angelo Salgueiro couldn't finish the play. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marco Rocha was the one to do the kick off. In the 56th minute Marco Rocha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vasco Gueifão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nikitas Vrasidas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Cássio Vilas Boas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When André Lisboa came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the josesinho fans jumped to their feet. When Gonçalo Nogueira fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Nikitas Vrasidas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cássio Vilas Boas having to interfere. If André Lisboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in SLBenfica's zone, Nikitas Vrasidas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cássio Vilas Boas came out of the goal and Nikitas Vrasidas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. António Leal's late challenge caught a josesinho's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. António Leal helped the player get up and apologised. Armindo Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nikitas Vrasidas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Cássio Vilas Boas made a huge save. André Lisboa struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Cássio Vilas Boas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for josesinho.
