An unexpectedly hard shot by Adélio Varanda in the 12th minute of play forced Benfica FC's goalkeeper Ilídio Resende to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. António Henriques showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Porfírio Melo in the 18th minute of the match. In the 19th minute, Francisco Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 21st minute Porfírio Melo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but António Henriques saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Adélio Varanda fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tabuado's protests and gave Adélio Varanda a yellow card for diving instead. Francisco Ramos struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. António Henriques didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Benfica FC. André Serpa charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed André Serpa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 36 played minutes Tabuado got a freekick which was hit by Olavo Pessoa. After a defensive mix-up in Tabuado's zone, Francisco Ramos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. António Henriques came out of the goal and Francisco Ramos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. António Henriques made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Ramos in the 44th minute of play. After having played for 47 minutes, Francisco Ramos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benfica FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Ramos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

In the 57th minute, Duarte Zambujal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 66 played minutes Tabuado got a freekick which was hit by Alexandrino Vilela. After having played for 74 minutes, Adélio Varanda managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tabuado's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adélio Varanda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Tabuado's zone, Porfírio Melo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. António Henriques came out of the goal and Porfírio Melo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 96th minute Francisco Ramos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but António Henriques saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benfica FC played a much better game than Tabuado and deserved their victory. The Tabuado players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
