The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Joaquim Porto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 2nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Joaquim Porto in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iwan Plachetka prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Paulo Correia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gafa's Nuno Gomes got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Joaquim Porto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lúcio Paiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélder Santarém in the 30th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rui Moura during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When the match had been going on for 46 minutes, Gafa's Bernardo Moniz got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Iwan Plachetka. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. Gafa's Lúcio Paiva proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Gafa from getting a goal against them. Iwan Plachetka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joaquim Porto, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 61st minute, Afonso Nunes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
