Paulo Monteiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorge Lima in the 3rd minute of the match. Cândido Trindade showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vicente Maia, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Diamantino Viana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo Monteiro having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Miguel Leal in the 24th minute of play forced SC Brotas's goalkeeper Cândido Trindade to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th minute Vicente Maia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cândido Trindade saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diamantino Viana ran back to his position shaking his head. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jorge Lima in the 49th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paulo Monteiro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 52nd minute, Alberto Correia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Jorge Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 58 minutes, Diamantino Viana made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Touguinha's Paulo Monteiro tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 62nd minute, Diamantino Viana got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cândido Trindade made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Vicente Maia sent off a good shot on target. Jorge Lima's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paulo Monteiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. Paulo Monteiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diamantino Viana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
