The audience thought a goal was coming when Bento Mendes got free with Francisco Melo in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The SC Zedes fans' excitement grew in the 18th match minute when SC Zedes's Carlos Veiga looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The supporters of SC Zedes booed when Varziela FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emanuel Paiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alexandre Lisboa struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Francisco Melo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varziela FC. After having played for 34 minutes, Carlos Veiga managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Zedes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Veiga was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bento Mendes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Francisco Melo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the game, one of SC Zedes:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 44th minute of the match Varziela FC's Emanuel Paiva broke free and sent away a ball that went into the goal by the right post. 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Gaspar Esteves made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carlos Veiga in the 52nd minute. The audience was convinced that Alexandre Lisboa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Francisco Melo was relentless in the 62nd minute of the game. With his leg Gaspar Esteves managed to avoid a goal in the 80thth minute, when SC Zedes's Carlos Veiga fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched SC Zedes eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
