But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Januário Seixas couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Veríssimo Pinheiro got free with Miguel Mendes in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bernardo Domingues's late challenge caught a Cortinhal FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bernardo Domingues helped the player get up and apologised. If Veríssimo Pinheiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
