The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, GD Alcochete's goal looked a bit too open when José Amaro came free, but Delfim Rangel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Delfim Rangel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Amaro in the 7th minute of play. SC Povoa's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Máximo Abreu 18 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alexandre Antunes during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to SC Povoa getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Alexandre Antunes hit a great ball. If Máximo Abreu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hélder Araújo charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Hélder Araújo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 38th match minute, SC Povoa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hélder Araújo to maneuver through the defense. Máximo Abreu was extremely unlucky when he, in the 40th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Filipe Brás kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. Fernando Faro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gregório lago in the 43rd minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rui Soares was the one to do the kick off. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Máximo Abreu put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Fernando Faro. SC Povoa's Fernando Faro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Máximo Abreu in the 56th minute of play. In the 58th minute of the match GD Alcochete got a corner. SC Povoa's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Paulo Campelo ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on GD Alcochete's corner Paulo Campelo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fernando Faro quite easily take care of the ball. If Gregório lago had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 63 minutes, José Amaro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Povoa's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Amaro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rui Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Delfim Rangel having to interfere. The supporters of SC Povoa booed when GD Alcochete was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miguel Prada didn't get a good kick on the ball. Máximo Abreu struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Fernando Faro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GD Alcochete. GD Alcochete's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Rui Soares 83 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-1. José Amaro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in GD Alcochete's zone, Joaquim Ferro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Delfim Rangel came out of the goal and Joaquim Ferro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The GD Alcochete support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
