The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the last second Wilson Queiroga throw himself and got hold of the ball when Xavier Barros in the 13thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Afonso Borba kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Gustavo Freire was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 15th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Murilo Macieira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Amílcar Paredes having to interfere. In the 18th minute, Afonso Borba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute, Pedro Pedroso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gustavo Freire took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 20th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Amílcar Paredes. Ormal FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting CP's zone, Catarino Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilson Queiroga came out of the goal and Catarino Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Amílcar Paredes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ilídio Soares in the 27th minute of the match. In the 30th match minute, Sporting CP was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Alcântara to maneuver through the defense. A long shot from Cândido Cardoso in the 31st minute of play was well struck, but Wilson Queiroga made a really good save at the right post. Wilson Queiroga took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xavier Barros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Xavier Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Wilson Queiroga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Rui Cunha fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ormal FC's protests and gave Rui Cunha a yellow card for diving instead. After 43 played minutes Ormal FC got a freekick which was hit by Rui Cunha. Sporting CP's Wilson Queiroga proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting CP from getting a goal against them. After 47 played minutes Sporting CP got a freekick which was hit by Hermano Vilalobos. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Xavier Barros made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Sporting CP getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Damião Garcez hit a great ball. After having played for 54 minutes, Catarino Magalhães managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ormal FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Catarino Magalhães was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting CP's zone, Xavier Barros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilson Queiroga came out of the goal and Xavier Barros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Catarino Magalhães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 58thth minute of the game Xavier Barros who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting CP's Wilson Queiroga was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 65th minute, Catarino Magalhães left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ormal FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. In the 71st minute Catarino Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilson Queiroga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ilídio Soares in the 76th minute of play forced Ormal FC's goalkeeper Amílcar Paredes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilson Queiroga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Xavier Barros in the 79th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Catarino Magalhães managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ormal FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Catarino Magalhães was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilson Queiroga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Xavier Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Queiroga having to interfere. Xavier Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alberto Alvarenga charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alberto Alvarenga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 88th minute, Xavier Barros ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Wilson Queiroga was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. 95 minutes into the match, Murilo Macieira notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Ormal FC's Amílcar Paredes. Amílcar Paredes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
