With an all-out effort, Alvar FC's Alfredo Cunha threw himself towards the right post 20 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jaime Campos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The audience was convinced that Jaime Campos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alfredo Cunha was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. In a very dangerous position, a player in Alvar FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Contenda a penalty, 41 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Paulo Queirós, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Alvar FC's Filipe Mota. 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Abel Neves stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jorge Correia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alfredo Cunha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaime Campos in the 70th minute of the match. In the 73rd match minute, Contenda was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stefan Schütz to maneuver through the defense. After 77 played minutes Alvar FC got a freekick which was hit by Emílio Amaral. The audience was convinced that Abel Neves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Filipe Mota was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. In the 81st minute Emílio Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredo Cunha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jaime Campos in the 83rd minute of play forced Contenda's goalkeeper Alfredo Cunha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 87 minutes into the match, Contenda's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Campos came free, but Alfredo Cunha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 1-2 became the score in the 91st minute when Jaime Campos elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Alvar FC lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
