SportingCP's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 5 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for SportingCP! In the 7th minute there was a penalty for SC Canicos. Ricardo Resende stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Damião Regalado. 0-1. 9 minutes into the game, David Ramos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Canicos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SportingCP the free kick. The supporters of SportingCP booed when SC Canicos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Ramos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Isidoro Sequeira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Delfim Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Delfim Barros was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jorge Falcão showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 15 minute of play. The supporters of SportingCP booed when SC Canicos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Pinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, SportingCP's Tomás Oliveira tried to score from far away in the 20th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 24thth minute of the game Jorge Falcão who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SC Canicos's Delfim Barros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Álvaro Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Damião Regalado having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gonçalo Queirós in the 30th minute of play forced SportingCP's goalkeeper Damião Regalado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jorge Pinto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Damião Regalado having to interfere. Álvaro Pinheiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Gonçalo Queirós came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the SC Canicos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gonçalo Queirós couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, SportingCP's Hermínio Porto got a free kick in the 40th minute. 41 minutes into the match, SportingCP's goal looked a bit too open when Álvaro Pinheiro came free, but Damião Regalado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of SportingCP booed when SC Canicos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomás Bessa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jorge Falcão stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Delfim Barros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Isidoro Sequeira in the 56th minute of the match. Damião Regalado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gonçalo Queirós, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. After some careless play in the SC Canicos defense, Isidoro Sequeira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Delfim Barros. The SC Canicos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Delfim Barros should have stopped the shot. If Jorge Falcão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 80 minutes, Jorge Falcão made it 3-2 with a short kick to the right side. SC Canicos's Delfim Barros tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Jorge Falcão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Álvaro Pinheiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Damião Regalado having to interfere. The supporters of SC Canicos booed when SportingCP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juliano Rebocho didn't get a good kick on the ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the SC Canicos players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for SportingCP.
