Damião Regalado came out of the goal and António Cavaco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Damião Regalado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronaldo Luz in the 11th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in SportingCP's zone, Ronaldo Luz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Damião Regalado came out of the goal and Ronaldo Luz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Benedito Regueira kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. In the 22nd minute, SC Recanto's Ronaldo Luz dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. If António Cavaco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Isidoro Sequeira came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the SportingCP fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Isidoro Sequeira couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronaldo Luz in the 56th minute of play forced SportingCP's goalkeeper Damião Regalado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zeferino Casado charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zeferino Casado the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 58 played minutes SportingCP got a freekick which was hit by Zeferino Casado. Hermínio Porto struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Juvenal Reis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SportingCP. Juvenal Reis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jorge Falcão in the 64th minute of the match. 68 minutes in the game, Jorge Falcão fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Juvenal Reis having to interfere. In the 74th minute Pedro Gusmão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Damião Regalado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of SC Recanto booed when SportingCP was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomás Oliveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alcides Prada, 79 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. When António Cavaco came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the SC Recanto fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that António Cavaco couldn't finish the play. One of SC Recanto:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of SportingCP:s goal. When the match had been going on for 94 minutes, SportingCP's Tomás Oliveira got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Juvenal Reis. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched SportingCP eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
