After a defensive mix-up in SC Benavente's zone, Joaquim Mendes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacinto Gueifão came out of the goal and Joaquim Mendes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jorge Jesus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Jacinto Gueifão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 15 played minutes SC Benavente got a freekick which was hit by Damião Franco. Jorge Jesus struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Jacinto Gueifão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Sainde. Cândido Nascimento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damião Franco in the 20th minute of the match. After having played for 21 minutes, Joaquim Mendes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Sainde's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joaquim Mendes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of SC Sainde booed when SC Benavente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sálvio Palma didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jacinto Gueifão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Basílio Delgado, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Vítor Gonçalves struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Cândido Nascimento didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Benavente. Cândido Nascimento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Baltasar Madureira in the 38th minute of the match. When Baltasar Madureira came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the SC Benavente fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Baltasar Madureira couldn't finish the play. Vítor Gonçalves could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Cândido Nascimento made a huge save. If Baltasar Madureira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilson Júdice charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wilson Júdice the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, SC Benavente's Wilson Júdice got a free kick in the 47th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Baltasar Madureira made a kick off. Baltasar Madureira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Cândido Nascimento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. SC Sainde's Cândido Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vítor Gonçalves in the 61st minute of play. In the 64th match minute, SC Benavente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Damião Franco to maneuver through the defense. 65 minutes into the match, SC Sainde's Oliveira Amorim broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Baltasar Madureira took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cândido Nascimento. Cândido Nascimento dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Baltasar Madureira scored 2-0 in the 79th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Cândido Nascimento, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Adolfo Meireles took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 83rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Cândido Nascimento. SC Sainde's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. SC Benavente's Jacinto Gueifão proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save SC Benavente from getting a goal against them. After 96 minutes, Catarino Marques mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Sainde and the SC Benavente players grew even worse after the yellow card. SC Sainde's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
