Jacinto Coimbra could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Abel Moreira made a huge save. Laurits Irsdal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Miguel Jesus kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Laurits Irsdal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Antunes in the 26th minute of play. Diamantino Andrade hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in SC Mereces's zone, António Gomes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Abel Moreira came out of the goal and António Gomes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 37 minutes into the match, Jonathan Herrera had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Abel Moreira. SC Mereces's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jonathan Herrera was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vasco Melo during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Vasco Melo hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Liverpool's Vasco Melo got his second yellow card of the match in the 46th minute. The referee ordered Vasco Melo off the ground. Vasco Melo hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lúcio Costa to make the kick off. Laurits Irsdal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristóvão Pires, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 55 minutes into the match, Liverpool's goal looked a bit too open when Lúcio Costa came free, but Laurits Irsdal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 58th minute, Jonathan Herrera ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Abel Moreira was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. 68 minutes into the game, Jonathan Herrera cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Abel Moreira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Laurits Irsdal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristóvão Pires in the 77th minute of the match. 85 minutes into the match, Liverpool's goal looked a bit too open when Adelino Cunha came free, but Laurits Irsdal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 89th minute, Eskil Törnkvist got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Liverpool getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Miguel Jesus hit a great ball.
