In the 22nd minute Lucas Domingues shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorge Borges saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Nuno Pinho fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Benfica Castelo Branco's protests and gave Nuno Pinho a yellow card for diving instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
