After a defensive mix-up in Salgadinha FC's zone, José Assunção stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulino Quintas came out of the goal and José Assunção tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 6 minutes, José Assunção managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Assunção was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Gustavo Moniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 8th minute, Manuel Ferro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jacinto Soares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Micael Bessa in the 15th minute of play. 17 minutes into the game, Micael Bessa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Salgadinha FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sport Lisboa e Benfica the free kick. Paulino Quintas was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but José Assunção showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 24 minute of play. José Assunção fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulino Quintas having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustavo Moniz in the 41st minute of play forced Salgadinha FC's goalkeeper Paulino Quintas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Sport Lisboa e Benfica getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Ricardo Aguiar hit a great ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and José Assunção made a kick off. After having played for 52 minutes, José Assunção managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Assunção was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Ricardo Aguiar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's supporters rose to their feet, but Ricardo Aguiar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paulino Quintas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 57thth minute of the game José Assunção who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Salgadinha FC's Paulino Quintas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. José Assunção sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Micael Bessa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacinto Soares having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 72 minutes, Hilário Pires took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Jacinto Soares to make any attempt to save it. The audience was convinced that José Assunção's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Paulino Quintas was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. In the 79thth minute of the game José Assunção who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Salgadinha FC's Paulino Quintas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 86 played minutes Salgadinha FC got a freekick which was hit by Hilário Pires. In the 88th minute José Assunção shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulino Quintas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Sport Lisboa e Benfica fully deserved thier win.
