The audience thought a goal was coming when Armando Matias got free with Sérgio Domingues in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Armando Matias stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Diamantino Esteves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sérgio Domingues having to make a save. After 53 played minutes Sport Club Vale Figueira got a freekick which was hit by André Pereira. Rogério Pereira acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 54th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Sandro Mendes. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Raul Paredes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Club Vale Figueira's supporters rose to their feet, but Raul Paredes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sérgio Domingues breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
