With a little luck, Fresta's Fabrício Gusmão got control of the ball when Luís Guarda tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luís Guarda got free with Fabrício Gusmão in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Sérgio Dias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Pedro Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. In the 54th minute Alípio Quinaz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Costa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gesteira's defense didn't have a chance, in the 56th minute, when Alípio Quinaz scored to the left of an out of position Pedro Costa, making the score, 1-1. Hermes Fraga kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Fabrício Gusmão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogério Veiga, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Gesteira's Daniel Moniz got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gesteira's Catarino Almeida pulled a muscle in his back after 70 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Sérgio Dias's late challenge caught a Gesteira's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sérgio Dias helped the player get up and apologised. In the 71st minute, Sérgio Dias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 72 minutes of play, Gesteira's Luís Guarda made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fabrício Gusmão was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luís Guarda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luís Guarda struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Fabrício Gusmão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gesteira. 85 minutes into the match, Luís Guarda had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fabrício Gusmão. Fresta's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luís Guarda was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. When Simão Machado fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gesteira's protests and gave Simão Machado a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Fresta booed when Gesteira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simão Machado didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Fresta's zone, Rogério Veiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabrício Gusmão came out of the goal and Rogério Veiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
