The referee ignored SC Alcafaz's protests and gave Duarte Ferro a yellow card for diving instead. Veríssimo Tomé's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlos Mendes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. When Veríssimo Tomé came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the SC Palma fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Veríssimo Tomé couldn't finish the play. In the 27th minute, Alexandre Amaro ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Virgílio Estrela was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 32 minutes into the game, Raul Soares cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Virgílio Estrela was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The supporters of SC Alcafaz booed when SC Palma was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Moisés Viana didn't get a good kick on the ball. Raul Soares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Virgílio Estrela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, SC Palma's Fabrício Casado got a free kick in the 43rd minute.

In the 56th minute Veríssimo Tomé shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Mendes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Veríssimo Tomé in the 59th minute of play forced SC Alcafaz's goalkeeper Carlos Mendes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vítor Torcato received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Carlos Mendes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vítor Torcato fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Mendes having to interfere. Raul Soares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 85th minute of the match, but Virgílio Estrela made a huge save. The SC Alcafaz supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing SC Alcafaz would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
