The audience was convinced that Horácio Vides's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hélder Gama was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Laércio Tomé in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hélder Gama saved LUSITANO AC from getting behind. A collision led to LUSITANO AC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Cristóvão Cardoso hit a great ball. L S Benfica's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Laércio Tomé in the 17th minute. L S Benfica's Laércio Tomé was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Hélder Gama in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. A hard shot 19 in the game by Horácio Vides from a close distance when the talented Hélder Gama managed to make a qualified save. LUSITANO AC's players were relieved. Estevão Domingos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duarte Baía, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the LUSITANO AC defense, Alexandre Rodrigues kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hélder Gama. The LUSITANO AC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hélder Gama should have stopped the shot. Hélder Gama stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Laércio Tomé's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. L S Benfica's Horácio Vides got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 35th minute Laércio Tomé shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hélder Gama saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 36th minute by Aprígio Amado got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. LUSITANO AC's Hélder Gama played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Horácio Vides in the 41st minute of play. LUSITANO AC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Laércio Tomé 44 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 4-0. L S Benfica's Aprígio Amado got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

After a defensive mix-up in L S Benfica's zone, Rúben Paredes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Estevão Domingos came out of the goal and Rúben Paredes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Horácio Vides fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored L S Benfica's protests and gave Horácio Vides a yellow card for diving instead. Horácio Vides hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Júlio Gois's late challenge caught a LUSITANO AC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Júlio Gois helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 62nd minute of the game. One of L S Benfica:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of LUSITANO AC:s goal. L S Benfica:s Estevão Domingos showed great skill when he stopped Carlos Curado:s penalty. 64 minutes into the game, LUSITANO AC's Carlos Curado nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Estevão Domingos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. In the 68th minute, Aprígio Amado made a precise shot to the right of Hélder Gama. LUSITANO AC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. 72 minutes into the match, LUSITANO AC's goal looked a bit too open when Laércio Tomé came free, but Hélder Gama reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Laércio Tomé might have been able to make a better finish in the 73rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hélder Gama. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Laércio Tomé ran back to his position shaking his head. Horácio Vides sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. In the 85thth minute of the game Aprígio Amado who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but LUSITANO AC's Hélder Gama was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. L S Benfica's Alexandre Rodrigues got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Aprígio Amado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Laércio Tomé might have been able to make a better finish in the 96th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hélder Gama. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Laércio Tomé ran back to his position shaking his head. Carlos Curado hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. When the referee ended the match the L S Benfica players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
