The supporters of Amiar booed when Melo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Leão didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Amiar's Cândido Setúbal in the 8th minute got a chance for a shot 8th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Melo's goalie prevented a goal. Melo's supporters crossed their fingers, but João Macedo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Melo's Armando Lima got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cândido Setúbal blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nuno Mota having to make a save. Duarte Rodrigues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Armando Lima in the 35th minute of play. João Macedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Duarte Rodrigues read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. Armando Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cândido Setúbal stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Melo's Nuno Mota played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nuno Moreira in the 51st minute of play. Nuno Mota didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nuno Moreira went, in the 53rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Óscar Faria hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Amiar defense, João Macedo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Duarte Rodrigues. The Amiar fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Duarte Rodrigues should have stopped the shot. After 59 played minutes Melo got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Pinto. Nuno Moreira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Nuno Mota tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Armando Lima in the 64th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Duarte Rodrigues prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when João Macedo got free with Duarte Rodrigues in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 72 minutes into the match, Amiar's goalkeeper Duarte Rodrigues had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by João Macedo. After 72 minutes, Óscar Faria mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Amiar and the Melo players grew even worse after the yellow card.
