In the 12th minute Fábio Torres shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sérgio Gueifão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Covanca's Rodrigo Azevedo got control of the ball when Humberto Garcia tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 15th minute, António Moura got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fábio Torres in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sérgio Gueifão prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 21 minutes into the match, Candeiro's goal looked a bit too open when Vicente Setúbal came free, but Sérgio Gueifão reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The long shot by Américo Correia in the 26th minute really tested Rodrigo Azevedo's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After 33 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Covanca! The goalkeeper, Rodrigo Azevedo, was totally fooled by Candeiro's Humberto Abreu, who 34 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 39th minute, António Moura reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Rodrigo Azevedo. The goal made the score 2-0. António Moura recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Humberto Garcia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fábio Torres stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Humberto Garcia made a precise shot to the right of Rodrigo Azevedo. Covanca's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. In the 67th minute, Fábio Torres got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Humberto Abreu's late challenge caught a Covanca's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Humberto Abreu helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 70th minute of the game. One of Candeiro:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Covanca:s goal. Sérgio Gueifão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vicente Setúbal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Candeiro's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Fábio Torres scored to the left of an out of position Sérgio Gueifão, making the score, 3-2. Candeiro's Sérgio Gueifão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fábio Torres in the 85th minute of play. Fábio Torres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 87 played minutes Candeiro got a freekick which was hit by António Moura. Vicente Setúbal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio Gueifão having to interfere. Sérgio Gueifão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vicente Setúbal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Humberto Garcia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 99 minutes into the match, Candeiro's António Moura sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rodrigo Azevedo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Candeiro's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
