In the 14th minute, Rui Brito ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. David Gaspar was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Afonso Brito stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Lopes's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. If José Freitas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carlos Lopes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 32nd minute, Carlos Lopes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rui Almeida to make the kick off. Afonso Brito showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Filipe Aguiar in the 69th minute of the match. When Adelino Paiva fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick.
