The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cândido Tavares hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lúcio Araújo in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lúcio Baptista saved Mairos from getting behind. José Mota showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristiano Pinheiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. 8 minutes into the match, Senouras FC's Vicente Sousa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lúcio Baptista narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of Senouras FC booed when Mairos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cândido Tavares didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12th minute Lúcio Araújo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Baptista saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 13 minutes Mairos's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ricardo Pinheiro who took care of the corner kick. José Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lúcio Baptista stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lúcio Araújo's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Senouras FC's José Mota played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristiano Pinheiro in the 21st minute of play. A collision led to Senouras FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Amadeu Martins hit a great ball. Cristiano Pinheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. José Mota tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. José Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 29 minutes into the match, Senouras FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristiano Pinheiro came free, but José Mota reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind Mairos's goalkeeper Lúcio Baptista, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 32 played minutes Mairos got a freekick which was hit by Cândido Tavares. After 33 played minutes, Senouras FC's Lourenço Gueifão shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Lúcio Baptista came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Senouras FC reached it. In the 42nd minute Cristiano Pinheiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Mota saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mairos's Lúcio Baptista played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lúcio Araújo in the 44th minute of play. Rui Amaro hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lúcio Araújo to make the kick off. After having played for 53 minutes, Cristiano Pinheiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mairos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristiano Pinheiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Cândido Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vicente Sousa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Lúcio Baptista tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Rui Amaro fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mairos's protests and gave Rui Amaro a yellow card for diving instead. After 59 played minutes Mairos got a freekick which was hit by Rui Amaro. Lúcio Baptista showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lúcio Araújo, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Cristiano Pinheiro kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving José Mota. That made the score 0-1 in the 66 minute of play. Vicente Sousa scored 1-1 in the 74th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lúcio Baptista, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Lourenço Gueifão charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lourenço Gueifão the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 79th match minute, Senouras FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lourenço Gueifão to maneuver through the defense. José Tavaress short, quick shot in the 90thth minute got José Mota to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 91 minutes into the match, Senouras FC's goalkeeper José Mota had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by José Tavares.
