SC Malhadinhas's Jorge Freitas got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 14 minutes into the match, SC Malhadinhas's goal looked a bit too open when Joaquim Viegas came free, but Humberto Alves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Humberto Alves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Joaquim Viegas went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Jaime Guarda hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Rogério Porto's late challenge caught a SC Malhadinhas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rogério Porto helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Barbacena's Rogério Porto got a free kick in the 23rd minute. The audience was convinced that Sérgio Simões's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Armindo Garcia was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. The supporters of SC Malhadinhas booed when Barbacena was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miguel Matos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Barbacena's Armindo Garcia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Barbacena from getting a goal against them. If Jorge Freitas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Joaquim Viegas made the kick off in the second half. SC Malhadinhas's Humberto Alves proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save SC Malhadinhas from getting a goal against them. Catarino Leal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Humberto Alves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 53rd minute of play. After 54 played minutes SC Malhadinhas got a freekick which was hit by Rui Castro. With a little luck, SC Malhadinhas's Humberto Alves got control of the ball when Catarino Leal tried to sneak it across the goal line. Humberto Alves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Matos in the 65th minute of play. Armindo Garcia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sérgio Simões in the 67th minute of the match. Catarino Leal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jorge Freitas might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Armindo Garcia. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jorge Freitas ran back to his position shaking his head. 80 minutes into the match, Barbacena's goal looked a bit too open when Sérgio Simões came free, but Armindo Garcia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Barbacena getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Miguel Matos hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jorge Freitas in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Armindo Garcia saved Barbacena from getting behind. Catarino Leal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Humberto Alves having to interfere. Barbacena's Armindo Garcia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Freitas in the 90th minute of play. A collision led to SC Malhadinhas getting a freekick after 97 minutes play. Rui Castro hit a great ball. After 98 played minutes, Barbacena's Viriato Anjos shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Humberto Alves came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Barbacena reached it. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Barbacena eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
