In the 10th minute Miguel Aleixo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardo Mendes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Francisco Carvalho's late challenge caught a SC Penso's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Francisco Carvalho helped the player get up and apologised. If Júlio Jesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Aleixo made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Júlio Jesus sent off a good shot on target. SC Azinhaga's Alexandre Moutinho couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 27th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for SC Penso. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. An unexpected shot in the 43rd minute by Joaquim Simões got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
