A collision led to SC Balancho getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Bernardo Torres hit a great ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Heitor Araújo couldn't finish the play. After 11 minutes, Armindo Coelho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gaia and the SC Balancho players grew even worse after the yellow card. Armindo Coelho kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Gaia's Afonso Moutinho got a free kick in the 12th minute. Sérgio Aleixo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Heitor Araújo, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. After 15 minutes of play, Gaia's Gil Reis made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eduardo Gueifão was left in no man's land by his defense there! 21 minutes into the game, Joaquim Garcia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gaia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Balancho the free kick. In the 22nd match minute, Gaia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquim Garcia to maneuver through the defense. In the 22nd minute of the match André Tavares shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sérgio Aleixo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Eduardo Gueifão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Henriques in the 25th minute of play. Eduardo Gueifão acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 28th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Daniel Moutinho. If António Gonçalves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute, Afonso Moutinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Gil Reis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gil Reis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gil Reis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eduardo Gueifão having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in SC Balancho's zone, Daniel Henriques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eduardo Gueifão came out of the goal and Daniel Henriques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Henriques stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Eduardo Gueifão took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gil Reis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gil Reis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Eduardo Gueifão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. António Gonçalves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th match minute, SC Balancho was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernardo Torres to maneuver through the defense. André Tavares took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 86th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Sérgio Aleixo. Gaia's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
