The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. During the 44th minute of the match Afonso Faria completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Afonso Faria a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 45 played minutes Vacaria FC got a freekick which was hit by Afonso Faria. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ricardo Ribeiro to strike the kick off in the second half. Armando Melo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Armando Melo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Armando Melo's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 64thth minute, António Matos skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Armando Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 73 minutes into the match, Lourinha's goal looked a bit too open when Óscar Resende came free, but António Setúbal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ricardo Ribeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. António Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Ricardo Ribeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lourinha's supporters rose to their feet, but Ricardo Ribeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. António Matos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. António Setúbal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Óscar Resende, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ricardo Ribeiro in the 93rd minute of play forced Vacaria FC's goalkeeper António Matos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Óscar Resende had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vacaria FC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Lourinha had controlled the match.
