The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, SC Penamacor's goal looked a bit too open when Lourenço Pacheco came free, but Bruno Leal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A nice corner shot did that Francisco Resende got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Bruno Leal quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 6 minutes, Rogério Amaral mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Penamacor and the Canhestros players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 6th minute, Rogério Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th minute of the match, Lourenço Pacheco tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Bruno Leal saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 17th match minute, Canhestros was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Américo Paredes to maneuver through the defense. Vítor Assunção sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vítor Assunção's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bruno Leal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. 34 minutes into the game, Joel Simões was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SC Penamacor's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Canhestros the free kick. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Lourenço Pacheco to strike the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Miguel Veiga got free with José Lima in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 64 minutes, Lourenço Pacheco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Canhestros's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lourenço Pacheco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 71 minutes into the match, SC Penamacor's Miguel Veiga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that José Lima narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, André Faro managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Penamacor's supporters rose to their feet, but André Faro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. José Lima breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of SC Penamacor booed when Canhestros was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francisco Resende didn't get a good kick on the ball. If André Faro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Lima took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rogério Amaral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
