If Jorge Simões had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 12 minutes, Alberto Magalhães mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Rio and the Nasce FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. António Dias shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Mário Pereira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno Moniz having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Nasce FC's Vítor Queirós got a free kick in the 18th minute. Francisco Marques charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Francisco Marques the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Afonso Barbosa, 20 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 22 minutes into the match, Nasce FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alexandre Tavares came free, but Nuno Moniz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Francisco Marques got his second yellow card in the match during the 24th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 25th minute, Francisco Marques hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nuno Moniz acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 25th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Afonso Barbosa. After a defensive mix-up in Rio's zone, Jorge Simões stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. André Borba came out of the goal and Jorge Simões tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 28 minutes into the game, Joel Amaral was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rio's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nasce FC the free kick. A collision led to Rio getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Joel Amaral hit a great ball. Nuno Moniz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Alexandre Tavares showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 31 minute of play. In the 37th minute, Mário Pereira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nuno Moniz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alexandre Tavares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Rio's Joel Amaral got a free kick in the 42nd minute. 47 minutes into the match, Nasce FC's goalkeeper Nuno Moniz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mário Pereira. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mário Pereira to strike the kick off in the second half. André Borba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jorge Simões in the 53rd minute. Nuno Moniz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mário Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Rio's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
