A collision led to Montes getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Rafael Garcia hit a great ball. Ricardo Matias kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rui Rodrigues during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Montes's Rui Rodrigues got a free kick in the 18th minute. Fernando Amorim took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 19th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Afonso Miranda. Montes's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Cogula's Cândido Queirós managed to work through Montes's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Cândido Queirós dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Afonso Miranda made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Luís Garcia sent off a good shot on target. 37 minutes into the match, Cogula's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Valente came free, but José Cabral reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Montes's defense didn't have a chance, in the 39th minute, when Cândido Queirós scored to the left of an out of position Afonso Miranda, making the score, 1-0. Cândido Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If André Coimbra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Cabral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jorge Valente, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jorge Valente made a kick off. André Coimbra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Cabral having to interfere. The supporters of Montes booed when Cogula was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. António Ribeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. 56 minutes into the match, Cogula's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Valente came free, but José Cabral reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute Jorge Valente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Cabral saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 66th minute, Bernardo Alves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luís Garcia in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Afonso Miranda saved Montes from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Valente in the 69th minute of play forced Cogula's goalkeeper José Cabral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cândido Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Afonso Miranda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luís Garcia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 81st minute, Cândido Queirós ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Afonso Miranda was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Montes's Afonso Miranda played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Garcia in the 94th minute of play. Luís Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Afonso Miranda tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Montes's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
