The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 9 minutes in the game, Manuel Leiria fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Simão Marques having to interfere. Diamantino Matias who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 19thth minute tested the skills of Simão Marques when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diamantino Matias got free with Simão Marques in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cláudio Pires to make the kick off. Alexandre Campos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedro Neves in the 56th minute. If Pedro Neves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute.
