When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Armando Magalhães sped through Calheiros's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Amílcar Morais. 11 minutes into the match, Geme FC's Joel Gonçalves sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Amílcar Morais narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 14th minute, Joel Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Geme FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Joel Gonçalves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amílcar Morais breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Joel Figueiredo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Joaquim Fernandes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Calheiros's Alfredo Aguiar got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hélder Gaspar kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. When Geme FC's Joel Gonçalves, in the 25th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Geme FC. 27 minutes into the match, Calheiros's goal looked a bit too open when Armando Magalhães came free, but Amílcar Morais reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 29 minutes into the match, Geme FC's goalkeeper Joaquim Fernandes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alfredo Aguiar. Duarte Leal charged in rather forcefully in the 30th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Duarte Leal the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Calheiros booed when Geme FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duarte Leal didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 31st minute, Joel Figueiredo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Hélder Gaspar fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Geme FC's protests and gave Hélder Gaspar a yellow card for diving instead. After 32 played minutes Geme FC got a freekick which was hit by Hélder Gaspar. In the 37th minute, Armando Magalhães left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Geme FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 43rd minute, Geme FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Alfredo Aguiar fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After the first half Geme FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joel Figueiredo was the one to do the kick off. If Armando Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Calheiros's Amílcar Morais got control of the ball when Joel Gonçalves tried to sneak it across the goal line. 59 minutes into the game, Armando Magalhães recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Amílcar Morais. Armando Magalhães showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. After a defensive mix-up in Calheiros's zone, Armando Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Amílcar Morais came out of the goal and Armando Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Daniel Porto charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Daniel Porto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Calheiros getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Daniel Porto hit a great ball. Joel Gonçalves was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 71st minute. Geme FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. When Armindo Vieira fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Geme FC's protests and gave Armindo Vieira a yellow card for diving instead. After 74 played minutes Geme FC got a freekick which was hit by Armindo Vieira. Joaquim Fernandes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Figueiredo in the 77th minute of play. A collision led to Geme FC getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Duarte Leal hit a great ball. Joaquim Fernandes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joel Figueiredo, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Alfredo Aguiar charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 88th minute Armando Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílcar Morais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Geme FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
