If Manuel Vaz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. António Esteves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Américo Carvalho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind Merelhe's goalkeeper Carlos Barros, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpected shot in the 71st minute by António Esteves got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side.
