The supporters of Carvalhosa booed when Grovelas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joel Figueiredo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Albertino Magalhães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sebastião Oliveira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sebastião Oliveira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Albertino Magalhães read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. Rui Leal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Assunção having to interfere. Pedro Assunção made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rui Leal in the 36th minute. When José Reis fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Grovelas's protests and gave José Reis a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso Fonseca in the 77th minute of play forced Grovelas's goalkeeper Albertino Magalhães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. António Borges's late challenge caught a Grovelas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. António Borges helped the player get up and apologised. Pedro Assunção showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Viana, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. Grovelas's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
