Álvaro Maia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without António Assunção having to interfere. In the 21st minute, Afonso Reis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 22 minutes into the match, Sobreira's Alberto Ramos broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After 35 played minutes SC Penafiel got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Vaz. After 36 played minutes, Sobreira's Alberto Ramos shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Sérgio Coelho came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sobreira reached it. Armindo Vale fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio Coelho having to interfere. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sandro Delgado to strike the kick off in the second half. When Joel Viana came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Sobreira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joel Viana couldn't finish the play. When Álvaro Maia fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Penafiel's protests and gave Álvaro Maia a yellow card for diving instead. Álvaro Maia kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. In the 58th minute, Carlos Nogueira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to SC Penafiel getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Jaime Almeida hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armindo Vale in the 61st minute of play forced SC Penafiel's goalkeeper Sérgio Coelho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sérgio Coelho didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gonçalo Pinto went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Sérgio Coelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gonçalo Pinto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Sandro Delgado managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Penafiel's supporters rose to their feet, but Sandro Delgado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. António Assunção breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Álvaro Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Álvaro Maia's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 84thth minute, António Assunção skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 87th minute Gonçalo Pinto suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. Pedro Vaz charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pedro Vaz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Sobreira booed when SC Penafiel was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Vaz didn't get a good kick on the ball. 90 minutes into the match, SC Penafiel's goal looked a bit too open when Armindo Vale came free, but Sérgio Coelho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A hard shot 95 in the game by Álvaro Maia from a close distance when the talented António Assunção managed to make a qualified save. Sobreira's players were relieved. SC Penafiel's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
