A wasted opportunity for Penalva. In the 8th minute, Paulo Coelho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Paulo Coelho kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Adolfo Pires. That made the score 1-0 in the 12 minute of play. If Mário Leiria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Adolfo Pires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Coelho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paulo Coelho got free with Adolfo Pires in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Through an outstanding action, after 26 minutes, Adolfo Pires successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After 26 played minutes Abragao FC got a freekick which was hit by Joaquim Cabral. In the 29th minute of the match, Paulo Coelho tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Adolfo Pires saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Jorge Baptista fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Abragao FC's protests and gave Jorge Baptista a yellow card for diving instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo Coelho in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Adolfo Pires prevented the ball from getting in the gole. During the 33rd minute of the match Jorge Baptista completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Jorge Baptista a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Penalva booed when Abragao FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Baptista didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Paulo Coelho to make the kick off. Sérgio Ribeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. But to his dismay, Mário Leiria quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. In the 65th minute, Filipe Ferreira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adolfo Pires showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mário Leiria in the 68th minute of the match. Paulo Coelho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Adolfo Pires tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paulo Coelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adolfo Pires having to interfere. Sérgio Ribeiro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alexandre Coelho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play. Lourenço Cardoso kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Sérgio Ribeiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Alexandre Coelho made a huge save. Xavier Pires fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexandre Coelho having to interfere. Ricardo Coelho kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Abragao FC's Júlio Baptista couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 88th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Penalva. After 89 minutes, Ricardo Coelho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Penalva and the Abragao FC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
