The ball had pretty good speed, but Albertino Alves firmly grabbed it by the left post. After a rather tough play, SC Melhorada's João Aguiar got a free kick in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute of the match Armindo Machado shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Albertino Alves showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Inácio Pinto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Albertino Alves was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. When Mariano Santarém fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SC Melhorada's protests and gave Mariano Santarém a yellow card for diving instead. In the 22nd minute there was a penalty for SC Esmegilde. Armindo Machado stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Albertino Alves. 1-0. Albertino Alves made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alexandre Viana in the 30th minute. In the 35th minute, Alexandre Dias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Inácio Pinto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Albertino Alves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 45th match minute, SC Melhorada was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Artur Araújo to maneuver through the defense. Inácio Pinto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Sérgio Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Artur Pires made a kick off. The supporters of SC Esmegilde booed when SC Melhorada was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cândido Porto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sérgio Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albertino Alves having to interfere. In the 58th minute, Inácio Pinto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The SC Esmegilde fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. In the 63rd minute, João Aguiar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Amadeu Cunha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Bernardo Fonseca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. André Baptista hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. In the 88th match minute, SC Melhorada was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cândido Porto to maneuver through the defense. Sérgio Barros's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Albertino Alves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. If Cândido Porto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amadeu Cunha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernardo Fonseca having to interfere. SC Esmegilde's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
