The referee ignored Matanca FC's protests and gave Vicente Garcia a yellow card for diving instead. Vicente Garcia hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. 9 minutes into the match, Melecas's goalkeeper Américo Torres had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alberto Resende. Matanca FC were awarded a corner in the 10th minute after Melecas's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Vicente Garcia took the corner. Joaquim Pereira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio Jesus having to interfere. Américo Torres made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alberto Resende in the 15th minute. If Alberto Resende had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Matanca FC defense, Joaquim Pereira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sérgio Jesus. The Matanca FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sérgio Jesus should have stopped the shot. If Inácio Marques had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joaquim Pereira in the 31st minute of play forced Matanca FC's goalkeeper Sérgio Jesus to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sérgio Jesus showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joaquim Pereira, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Sérgio Jesus made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Inácio Marques in the 38th minute of play. Sérgio Jesus came out of the goal and Inácio Marques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Matanca FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Melecas were winning 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Amadeu Henriques was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Melecas's zone, Alberto Resende stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Américo Torres came out of the goal and Alberto Resende tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Matanca FC's Amadeu Henriques got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amadeu Henriques in the 64th minute of play forced Melecas's goalkeeper Américo Torres to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 72 minutes, Alberto Resende managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Matanca FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alberto Resende was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 93rd minute, Amadeu Henriques made a precise shot to the right of Américo Torres. Melecas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
