Spectators: 34 (Terracing: 26, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) SC Funchal's Eusébio Luz started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. SC Funchal's Gonçalo Paiva managed to work through Besteiros's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Gonçalo Paiva dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. 9 minutes into the game, Carlos Matias cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Pedro Moreira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Besteiros's Rogério Borba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eusébio Luz in the 12th minute of play. SC Funchal's João Fontes shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 15th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Rogério Borba but with some difficulty. An unexpected shot in the 16th minute by Eusébio Luz got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Gonçalo Paiva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Rogério Borba made a huge save. In the 20th minute, Eusébio Luz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Besteiros's Rogério Borba got control of the ball when Gonçalo Paiva tried to sneak it across the goal line. Pedro Moreira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Gonçalves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Carlos Matias recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. SC Funchal's Pedro Moreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mariano Gonçalves in the 35th minute of play. If Eusébio Luz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mariano Gonçalves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Pedro Moreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mariano Almeida hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. The supporters of SC Funchal booed when Besteiros was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Moura didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlos Morais hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mariano Gonçalves to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind SC Funchal's goalkeeper Pedro Moreira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Carlos Matias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Moreira having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Mariano Gonçalves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pedro Moreira was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in SC Funchal's zone, Carlos Matias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedro Moreira came out of the goal and Carlos Matias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. João Santos hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Mariano Gonçalves struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Pedro Moreira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Besteiros. Eusébio Luz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gonçalo Paiva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Rogério Borba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 98th minute, André Vale managed to get in a good position for a shot. Besteiros's supporters rose to their feet, but André Vale was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pedro Moreira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
