Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Candoso's Emílio Cunha started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Viriato Antunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Artur Bessa having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Álvaro Pedroso's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Artur Bessa was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. António Garcia might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hélder Martins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. António Garcia ran back to his position shaking his head. Álvaro Pedroso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Artur Bessa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If António Garcia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Candoso's Emílio Cunha slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Hélder Martins. That made the score 1-0 after 14 minutes of play. Artur Bessa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Álvaro Pedroso in the 17th minute of play. In the 25th minute, Álvaro Pedroso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Artur Bessa was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The supporters of Varges booed when Candoso was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fábio Teixeira didn't get a good kick on the ball. 41 minutes into the match, Viriato Antunes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Artur Bessa. Candoso's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Viriato Antunes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 46th minute, Rogério Correia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Viriato Antunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Artur Bessa having to interfere. The Candoso players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Varges were winning 1-2.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Álvaro Pedroso to strike the kick off in the second half. If Viriato Antunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. António Garcia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hélder Martins having to interfere. In the 60th minute the ball was on its way in behind Varges's goalkeeper Hélder Martins, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 60 minutes, Ricardo Resende mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varges and the Candoso players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 61 played minutes Varges got a freekick which was hit by Ricardo Resende. António Garcia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hélder Martins came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Candoso's Emílio Cunha. But to his dismay, Emílio Cunha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. António Garcia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hélder Martins having to interfere. António Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Hélder Martins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 74 minutes into the match, Candoso's goalkeeper Artur Bessa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Viriato Antunes. 80 minutes into the match, António Garcia notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Varges's Hélder Martins. Hélder Martins was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sérgio Fernandes kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. Viriato Antunes who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 84thth minute tested the skills of Artur Bessa when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Viriato Antunes in the 85thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Artur Bessa, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When António Garcia came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Candoso fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that António Garcia couldn't finish the play. Varges's Hélder Martins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emílio Cunha in the 97th minute of play. Candoso were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Varges for a fine match.
