After a rather tough play, Espadanal FC's Eusébio Santarém got a free kick in the 22nd minute. In the 23rd minute of the match Cristiano Nogueira shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Daniel Pedroso showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 28th minute Duarte Castro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílcar Sá saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Espadanal FC getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Armando Gonçalves hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Espadanal FC defense, André Guerreiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Daniel Pedroso. The Espadanal FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Daniel Pedroso should have stopped the shot. In the 42nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Espadanal FC's goalkeeper Daniel Pedroso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 47 minutes into the match, Avelar's goal looked a bit too open when Armando Gonçalves came free, but Amílcar Sá reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Júlio Gomes to strike the kick off in the second half. If David Leiria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Avelar eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
