In the 40th minute Hugo Dantas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 42nd minute, Tiago Guerreiro fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Américo Borges showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tiago Guerreiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hugo Dantas was the one to do the kick off. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. During the 92nd minute of the match Sandro Carvalho completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Sandro Carvalho a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Avelal booed when Varsea was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sandro Carvalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlos Barros made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bruno Moutinho in the 96th minute.
