Diamantino Torres hit a great ball. 9 minutes into the match, Montouto's goal looked a bit too open when Rogério Bessa came free, but Lourenço Leal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 10th match minute, Montouto was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mário Simões to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in SC Valenca's zone, Manuel Santarém stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Santarém came out of the goal and Manuel Santarém tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rogério Bessa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Lourenço Leal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, SC Valenca's goalkeeper Alfredo Santarém had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomás Nunes. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Manuel Santarém in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alfredo Santarém saved SC Valenca from getting behind. In the 26th minute, Artur Aleixo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alexandre Nascimento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, SC Valenca's Alfredo Santarém got control of the ball when Mário Simões tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 39th minute, Diamantino Guerreiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Manuel Santarém had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 43 minutes into the game, Mário Simões was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Montouto's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave SC Valenca the free kick. In the 44th match minute, Montouto was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mário Simões to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Rogério Bessa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lourenço Leal was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. Alfredo Santarém showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manuel Santarém, who was totally free with the ball in the 49th minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

After having played for 53 minutes, Alexandre Nascimento managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Valenca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alexandre Nascimento was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Manuel Santarém in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alfredo Santarém prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Montouto booed when SC Valenca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diamantino Guerreiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rogério Bessa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lourenço Leal having to make a save. When Rogério Bessa came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the SC Valenca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rogério Bessa couldn't finish the play. With his leg Lourenço Leal managed to avoid a goal in the 80thth minute, when SC Valenca's Rogério Bessa fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Rogério Bessa's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Lourenço Leal firmly grabbed it by the left post. The crowd rose to their feet as Artur Aleixo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Lourenço Leal. That made the score 0-2 in the 88 minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, SC Valenca's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Santarém came free, but Alfredo Santarém reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95th match minute, SC Valenca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Amaro to maneuver through the defense. The SC Valenca supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing SC Valenca would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
